May 21, 2022: Dr. Anarkali Kaur Honaryar joins ICHRRF as Director of Outreach for Afghanistan
Renowned Human Rights Activist Dr. Anarkali Kaur Honaryar joined ICHRRF as the Director of Outreach for Afghanistan.
Dr. Honaryar is a medical doctor by profession and a Human Rights activist, starting her career in public life as a member of the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) in 2004. Pursuing her career as a women's rights activist, she has been a senator representing the Hindu-Sikh minorities in the Afghan Parliament for ten years. As a senator, she served as the head of the national economy commission, a member of the cultural affairs commission, and a member of the international relations commission. She was also selected as a member of the peace council representing the Afghan democratic government.
Her work has been recognized with many awards, notably the UNESCO prize for promoting tolerance and non-violence. She is currently exiled from her own country after Taliban takeover of Afghanistan in August 2021.
ICHRRF welcomes Dr. Honaryar and looks forward to her direction, lived experiences and wisdom in working for the betterment of religious minorities and women in Afghanistan.
